DDR5 memory will appear next year and will be twice as fast DDR4
According to the consortium of JEDEC, DDR5 become the new memory standard. The new standard will be no later than mid-2018, and soon manufacturers will be able to begin production of the respective memory chips.
DDR5 memory will be even faster. Capacity has doubled compared to the current standard DDR4. The increase in bandwidth is achieved mainly by increasing the clock frequency. At the beginning of the modules will be offered at 3.200 MHz, but later incidence will continue to grow. DDR5 modules will work in the future at a frequency of 6.400 MHz.
In addition, of DDR5 memory will be effective, that is, the modules will consume less energy. However, details about on what voltages will operate the new RAM, not yet. JEDEC announce the final specs until the middle of 2018.
Besides traditional use, will find application in the memory storage area. It is about creating DDR5 special format called NVDIMM-P. Normal RAM is fast, but the volatile memory, the data which is lost when the power is turned off. By combining it with a non-volatile flash memory, you can get fast and reliable storage solution. However, it is not known how enthusiastic manufacturers will NVDIMM-P. Currently, HP Enterprise NVDIMM offers modules for servers, but they are, of course, based on the DDR4.
